strange tides in north wexford?
Does anyone know why Tidal predictions in north wexford are so badly inaccurate? I've heard other people on this forum conplain about it too and i've noticed it week in week out. Easy tide would say high tide is xx you arrive an hour before xx and you can clearly see the tide is still going out. even 4 hours later, its still going out or its just static.

Try Googling - amphidromes / Wexford
Although you can plan the tides pretty well using a constant against Dublin tide tables. This is how most of the SAC's will plan their competitions a year in advance so as to fish optimum tides.
Also "constant" is a misnomer, the variance changes on neap/spring tides.

Re: strange tides in north wexford?
Thanks Alby, wow thats a lot of info for a Friday afternoon
I have to admit though i'm still not sure i understand this.
Does that mean then that the Amphidromes point that exsists in north wexford cancels out any variation in standard tide perdictions? so the prediction below for courtown of 19.09 is just not accurate?
So, if i guage the Dublin tide tables to help predict the flood tide (if any) in north wexford, does that mean there would be a slight rise in water level in North wexford tonight because of the volume of water getting higher in Dublin at 22.22? I think its a spring tide tonight
I'm basing this off the below for tonight from easy tide
Dublin 22.22
Greystones 22.14
Wicklow 22.03
Arklow 19.31
Courtown 19.09
Wexford 17.37

Re: strange tides in north wexford?
I did some research on this a while back and remember reading somewhere that the Bristol channel has some kind of influence on the tides in the North wexford area.

I think I've posted about amphidromes before. You can see what happens with the various harmonic components around the neap tide

Thanks JD,
You guys are probably well used to this but i have to admit i'm still struggling
In your screenshot i can clearly see what your talking about, but for tonight (below) it looks like any other tidal range. On other occasions when i plan the same way theres usually .7 metres difference between low and high tide during new moon phases using easy tide or iphone apps. same as below but when i arrive its a different story all together.
