somebody tied a heavy speed boat, heavier than a 175, to this and left it overnight
Saturday, 35 knt winds, and it never moved an inch. There is 4 meters of 20mm
chain on the car tyre.

if the mooring has silt you might get away with it for a while as the tyre will sink into it but if you get adverse weather coupled with a high tide it could lift the block .could you not chain 3 of them together? i know in howth they put a slab of concrete about 3 ft square and 6" deep but that was just to hold the bow,the stern is held by 2 more on a chain all the boats are attached to.i only have to watch for high tides and adjust the ropes accordingly

Looks like it should be fine so. A lot if it depends on where you Moore and the conditions. Looks like you will be grand in the fair weather, just be careful around foul weather, especially if coupled with big tides.

You also need to take the seabed into consideration ie: is it mud or gravel etc

If its mud a tip for you when making the block is to place a heavy sheet of plastic under the mould on the ground, dead centre of the block place a fairly big stone under that plastic so that there is an indent in the bottom of the block that in turn creates a suction to the mud

I don't like the idea of connecting numerous blocks together they are only as safe at the weakest connecting link a better plan is to make one block as large as possible make one that would hold a 30 footer and then you'll never need to worry about a small boat moored to it. I prefer to make up a wooden box mould than using tyres as I've seen tyres slide (drag) even big tractor tyres

Probably the worst mould to drag or slide along the bottom I've seen just the mooring buoy drag them before ever a boat was attached

I would avoid this method but if you have one made up to go out that you're stuck with for now at least smash the box off with a lump hammer or similar first
