24th & 25th of August north wexford

#1 Post by jhcabs »

First session

People: myself and Mark

Duration: 11pm - 3am

Tide:low tide onward

Weather: rough, surf. SE i think

Bait: crab, crab and more crab

Rigs: 3.0 pulley pennel

Results: 2 small hounds, and one 7 pound bass ;)

Originally was targeting smoothhound but when i arrived the conditions where just right for bass. fished two rods, long and short. few hounds at first. around 2am i baited up a big crab and put it out about 30 yards. not even five minutes gone, bang first bass of the year for me.

Second Session

People: myself and corbyeire

Duration: 2pm - 4pm

Tide:just after high tide according to easy tide which i'm convinced was wrong all weekend

Weather: calm sunny, few small showers

Bait: crab

Rigs: 3.0 pulley pennel

Results: nothing for me, brian got a small plaice and a gunard

Went down to meet a fellow forum angler. brought a bit of bait used it all and got nothing except wet during one of the showers. good chat though and finding out how crap the fishing out wst was. i always thought it was a fishing mecca.

Third Session

People: myself, Mark and Victor (ferns angler)

Duration: 11pm - 4am

Tide:low tide on, or a least what easy tide told me. i think it was completely rubbish perdiction

Weather: calm with a cold NW west

Bait: crab

Rigs: 3.0 pulley pennel

Results: LSD, 2 Small Hounds, 3.5 pound Thronback Ray

My god that ray was heavy to pull in. not much fighting but it sucked itself to the bottom and it took a lot to get him up to the beach. was delighted as i never caught a thorny before. didn't know how to pick it up at first.

Photos below. Pics of the ray to follow. mark had a flash on his iphone.

Seeing as I have quite literally only taken up the sport in the last 3 weeks it was a real motivational kick in the ass to see john pull in that bass, now I want a big fish so bad!! Haha by the way I'm the mark that John refers to in his report haha I personally caught 2 tiny smoothies all weekend, and by tiny I mean barely 1-1.5lb but I was happy to catch anything at all!! Haha thanks John for showing me so much by the way
