Hi there,
Yes you can eat it, personally never tasted it. Friend of mine has tried it as says its lovely, but he would eat anything, lol..
As soon as its caught, you will have have to Skin, gut and chill the dogfish, otherwise the urea remains in the flesh and ammonia smell develops withing 24hrs and this taints the fish!! Reason for this is that there is a lack of a urinary tract, so they concentrate urea, a waste product in their blood and excrete it throught their skin, which myt explain the reason for getting the skin off as soon as possible..

Hope this helps, all the best SQ.............

An old guy I know eats them, probably an aquired taste though . . .havent eaten them myself. Can be a bit tricky to skin them but with a sharp knife cut the head and guts out, then run the knife down the body lengthways a few times. Then pry the knife under the skin to get a start in it, hold one end with a pliers and pull the skin - should come off like a banana.

I'm sure other lads have their own ways but thats how I do mine.

Funny you ask. I was just talking to a guy thismorning and he was asking me have I ever had it! He boils it in vinegar then adds soy sauce, ginger and scallions. I had dogfish for the first time 2 weeks ago in spain in a tapas bar. It was fried in spicy batter, I was really suprised it tasted so good. :D

Tried it for the first time a few weeks back. Was lovely but some amount of work skinning it! I cut the bone out of the middle and fried it.

Sorry to repeat what I've said elsewhere but there is a much easier method than that ^ .
Just hold the fish up by the tail and pour very hot ( but not boiling ) water down it for a couple of seconds . This makes the skin go to something like a firm paste which you can easily scrape off with the back of a knife . Sorted .

i have actually had the pleasure of trying it.not the nicest fish to eat,had seen the video of your lad there on the trawler skinning them quite a while back so me and a friend said we would give it ago, seeing as we always catch them (bit of a pest sometimes)and have never tried eating one.so the next doggie we caught was for the plate.the next night we landed a few and kept one.
we gutted the fish on the rocks and headed home.
we had some crack skinning it,using the same method as trawler guy.
when we got down to the meat, twas a fine looking piece of meat in all fairness, still swimming on the chopping board even tho it had no bones innnards, head or skin...
we fried it,probly not the best way to cook a doggy, but still when the meat started to go brown,it still looked deadly to eat,but when we tasted it,mucky stuff..bad aftertaste... :(
still tho i wouldnt turn my nose up at it if i was starving... :)

Have to agree on its own its not the best tasting fish but as a curry or in a beer batter it is really nice.

Sounds to me like you like your curry or beer marinade more than the fish. Chuck the dogfish back in and go buy a chicken!
