Will a sliding float damage braid?

#1 Post by daveyboy »

Quick question lads, will using braid as mainline with a sliding float damage the braid? I'm wondering will the abraision from the float weaken the line? Having tried both 10 lb mono and 20 lb braid my preference is for the braid but don't want to mess up the line.

the only problem i have using braid to float fish is getting the stop knot to grip the line properly

if your using very fine braid this could be an issue. Use some of the custom float stops out there. They are very cheap. If it is still slipping a little use a second one and that should sort it.

i have tried the smallest one i could find but since i only use 8 or 10lb braid for float fishing which is very thin they can still slip, in the end i just have to go old school and tie one on instead. (dont always get that right the first time i can tell you  )

tie a stopknot with 6lb optima powergum, or cut a small piece (2-3mm) of silicone tubbing and pass the line twice thru the hole, it's might help
