Bushwhacker

Just bought a bushwhacker 10-40 gm for plugging. Noticed that when I join the two pieces they don't join up all the way at the spiggot joint. There is a gap of a couple of cm. Is this normal with this rod? It feels tight enough that the top half isn't going anywhere. Not sure if I'm explaining it properly but if anyone can put my mind at rest it till save me a trip back to the shop. Thanks!

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what a spiggot joint actually is?!

Sounds about right to me, the gap is there to allow for wear over time

I know a guy who bought a very expensive rod, realised that they didn't join like you have said, so he then proceeded to sand down the spigot until both parts met, now a couple of months later his rod is really lose!

Lesson learnt!

Ah right thanks my old rod was different they just slid right in to each other. Thanks for the clarification!

Yep can't wait to christen it and with a bit of luck get the first bass of the season! Am used to using a daiwa proteus 10ft 10-60 gm rod. This is half the weight so looking forward to it.

very happy i saw this thread as i recently bought a few second hand rods and one of them has about an inch gap where it joins.

i was very close to getting out the sand paper

I recently got one, too. The gap is there on mine also, have only fished with it once (and got rained off after an hour) its beautifully light and casts really well. Enjoy it!

I dropped mine last month ,with the reel attached and the top section broke a few inches above the joint .The end sic guide had cracked a few months previously . I got a new section for €40 . The gap on the joint is only about 10mm .

Rod Joints There are basically two types of rod joints, these being spigot joints and "put over" joints. A spigot joint can be used to joint two rod sections of equal diameter. A piece of carbon material in the shape of a dowel is glued into the male section, this can then be inserted into the female section.

I have noticed that the reel seat screw thread is very loose . I have considered wrapping the thread with insulating tape .

Try that white plumbing tape.

I couldn't hold out any longer and got one. It's the 8 foot 10-40 gm. It's in the boot of the car and I can't wait to get out there with it. Of course there are no fish where I fish but I enjoy casting the lures anyway.
