Spot for the better half and the kids?

#1 Post by myworldfishing »

Hi all.

I took my better half on a boat trip and she loved it, she's hounding me to arrange another.
But I wanna test her on the shore angling and also have the kids off for the week, so heres the problem.

Im not havign much luck with my own marks latley and need to find a spot that will throw up somthing....
Heres what im thinking because I live in tallaght dublin:

Pigeon house, hope for dogs and flats.
Dun Laoghaire: havent fished it for years.
wicklow pier: fished it a few weeks ago and got, whites, scorps and dogs.

Wicklow is a bit out but if its the best of the bunch thats where im going...

Anyone any spots thats good for beginners and kids?.....

Not going near graystones pier because theres always to many fishing it.
Entries now open for the All Ireland Shore Cod Championships on November 29th hosted by Sea Angling Ireland SAC

if ya dont want to go to greystones dun laoighre pier is easily accesable an should start throwin up a few fish around this time of year, the west pier should throw up whiting, pollock, collies flats and the odd dogfish.. try fish ragworm on the bottom or a float fished ragworm off the back wall for pollock... 2 hours either side of high tide ..

Greystones is worth considering. Plenty of fish straight down off the wall, all small ,but a nice variety of species. You might even get to show them a scorpion fish which should keep the interest up

We have found that fishing back in towards the harbour from the Greystones pier is pretty good for the kids, just drop the line down off of the wall.

The invasion seems to be concentrated on the seaward side of the pier so there should be plenty of space.

My kids have got Scorpion Fish, Rockling, Crab, Whiting (of course) and even Dab from that part of the pier.

Just for a change of pace we headed up to the trout fishery in Annamoe yesterday and the kids had a ball in the junior pond, it made up for a couple of blanks!

Bray pier could be an option too. I've had whiting, Pollock, rockling, codling, scorpions, dogs and flats. Haven't fished it for a while but it was infested with 5-beardys last winter!
It ain't easy but it sure is simple!

Bray pier has plenty of room and I always had plenty of whiting when the tide is right

:-D Right enough the crabs can be bad there. Cream won't work but a few floaty beads can!
