Lug wraps?
Hi lads, new convert to this fishing lark and was wondering about lugworm wraps. How are they prepared and why would you prepare lug in this way? Do they freeze down better? Also does anyone know any bait shops which stock them? Any help appreciated as I heard they are a decent winter bait.
It ain't easy but it sure is simple!

Re: Lug wraps?
there black lug mate, not blow lug which are more common so you might find it difficult to locate them. but they are a good bait for whiting dabs flounder rockling. i usually tip mine off with a bit of squid or mackeral aswell. you will get them in most of the fishing shops around dublin. dont throw them away after a session either just bring them home and refreeze them .
Wish list for 2015: sword tail, black Molly, horny cobbler

henrys tackle in dublin usually stock them all year round i find them an absolute killer bait for dabs but they also work for whiting, flounder and cod when used in cocktails...

Re: Lug wraps?
large blow blug are just as good as frozen blacks imo. there are a good few spots where you collect large blow lug. gut them on the beach, leave them wrapped in paper for a few days. then re wrap them in news paper and freeze. they work very well for flats and whiting tipped with a bit of mac.

Re: Lug wraps?
Was using fresh lug, rag and wraps last week, and everything came to the wraps. Great bait in winter and handy to get too

Re: Lug wraps?
Great bait I always put a bit of bait elastic around them helps them stay on the hook, I always have a few in the freezer great for a spur of the moment session.

The best way to put them on is to cut a piece thats the same size as the shank of the hook then whip on to a baiting needle or a scissors and slide up like you would a normal lug. You can have them ready to go for your next cast staright away like this
