Might be a stupid question but is there any dogfish deterrent
Hairspray, bigger bait, cast out the wife?

this is true i have tried almost everything to keep doggies away from me while fishing the wicklow beaches but its impossible, the winter months they do dissappear but then come back with avengence in may.. i dont no about every1 else but out of all the baits i use lugworm an mussel dont seem to turn them on like other baits such as sandeel, mackrel, rag and peeler which drive them crazy...

Re: Goddamn dogfish!!!!
In my own opinion dogfish are just a complete nuisance. Some people enjoy catching them, I have no problem with that, each to their own. But if I had the choice between catching them while out on a fishing session or not catching anything I know what I would want everytime - to blank.
I have found that if you tip off with anything silvery like mackerel or sandeel they will be more attracted to your bait and you have more chances of catching them in these situations. They are hard to avoid as they are present in most places around our coast.
Casting out the wife might work, but it wouldn't be advisable

Re: Goddamn dogfish!!!!
i was on a rock mark during the week and was getting them more than 1 every 2 casts and loved it. better to see the nodding tip of a doggie than a motionless one. one of them was 3lb 01oz too
just under specimen weight.

Re: Goddamn dogfish!!!!
Was up around the rocks but I can't remember exact spot. The main problem there is catching the lobster pot lines which is an almost constant battle. Can be fished quite close in though as that's where the doggies were chomping on mackerel fillet.wishiniwasfishin wrote:Beachbrat666 wrote:Better than blanking entirelyMy last Browns Bay trip was throwing up a dog every cast, landed 4 within 40 mins or so

There's supposed to be a really good mark away on round towards Portmuck,It has a name but it escapes me atm.
*Off-topic* I would urge anyone going near rocks to not go alone and wear stiff footwear to support your foot/ankle.. My foot is in plaster due to soft boots on the rocks at Portmuck,I was a good half mile away from the carpark at the time, with tripod,3 rods and all my gear.
