beach shelters

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

ive got the ron thonpsom one and it is heavy and awkward but when your sitting in it and theres a gale blowing its worth it  . thankfully, ive only needed to use it a few times so cant give a proper review of it. also very handy when the sun is blaring. keeps ya in the shade and helps protect the bait from drying out too.
i think the ian golds might be a bit lighter and easier to transport but its a bit more expensive.

Ian golds Igloo is the only shelter id recomend. only takes 1minute to put up very easy in strong winds. its only 99euro in tackle shops and worth every penny. iv had the ron thompson one its cheeper but more work to put up

i wouldnt say that ive been on the beach fishing comps and and have always had my ron thompson erected in the same or less amount of time it took for the igloo people. dont get me wrong the igloo is a great piece of kit but for double the price it not that much better than the ron thompson. the ron thompson would be my preffered option purely based on the cost factor and the fact they;ve been proven to last

Have to agree with Tony on this, its worth the extra few bob. The Igloo is easier to put up than the RT

Tell that to alby last year on brittas and his RT decided to take flight while he was putting it up and got a fat slice on his head from it. In strong winds iv helped and seen 2 people put up there ron thompson shelters..and who says the igloo wont last as long as other brands? what have you bought from ian golds range that broke?

leg lock kit, ruler, rod holdall, cup on the ian golds tripod tripod, zips on two cooler bags and the screw fittings on the tripod. all i was saying is i know my ron thompson works, ive never had it fly off on me and ive set it up in some storm force wind. and its half the price of the igloo.

I use the Aldi one that was goin for 12euro :D . Had it down in Wexford last week when the winds were really strong. Mind you we did have to fill it with sand, bricks and tie a rope to it. Held grand! Even thinkin of moving in permanently

All jokes aside I will be purchasing the RT soon as a friend has one and its great.

I too use the RT shelter and find it works well. Def worth the money. But from a pure TART side of things when its done and works no more, i will go for the Igloo  :D :D

I use my Ronnie Thompsie all the time. it takes no time to put up and holds in strong winds and great for keeping the baits cool on a sunny day...
I have seen the iglo and they look the business.. I wouldnt mind getting one myself when the RT gives up but I think that will be a long way away tbh

The best advice i can give you is to buy a garden trowel/ small hand shovel, it makes a hell of a difference rather than using your chopping board or hands in compacted wet sand

I been using the RT shelter for a few years now and its still in good nick so I cant fault them, I cant imagine the igloo would be much faster to erect but I do like his idea of adding the Velcro to hold the back up rod during a match,
I might put some Velcro on my RT shelter and hope I don’t bump into Ian at a match.. Else he might have me for copying his idea,

I was 2 pegs down from Ian at a Comp and I must have spent most of the comp watching this man at work - he really gets the job done in style,

Here’s the man himself
