Tope From The Shore

#1 Post by Powderkeg »

Looking to give tope fishing a go.just wondering how you would set up a typical shore tope rig? and what mainline breaking strain i should opt for.would most people have a seperate set up just for tope.e.g rod ,reel etc? any help appreciated.Cheers!

im no expert but from what i no a powerful beach rod and a big reel to match e.g slosh 30 filled with 20lb mainline and a long 80lb leader sould suffice over clean ground... a customised pulley rig with 80lb rig body heavy swivals , wire hook snood or extremely heavy mono snood 150lb + and 10/0 hooks should do the trick ... i never caught one from the shore but this is the type of setup i used while trying

Would not think you need a powerful set up as such, your average beach set up should do the trick,I have had them on an average beach caster and a mag elite just make sure the drag is set while waiting. Pulley rig is ideal but would add six inches of wire and a size 6/0 hook and up should be fine. Dont forget your shockleader as they can roll in the line cutting you off, best of luck. November can throw up a few big females from greystones down to wicklow

You will need a bigger reel than a 6500 had one spooled earlier this year in a tope shockleader of 80lbs as a rubbing leader essential make sure you have all the boxes ticked cause if you do hit one you want every chance of landing it
