Live near rogerstown estuary where I've heard theres flounder/dabs. Problem is, it's also full of crabs and if I cast into it they strip the bait in seconds. Any ideas how to avoid this? Also, if I use size 1 hooks have I still a chance of hooking a bass?
Thanks in advance for any advice

If you use fresh peeler crab and whip it on nice and tight this should reduce the amount of crabs attacking ur baits and still will be a nice attractive bait for flounder and bass !! i wouldnt go any bigger than size 1's .... to be honest you should still catch bass on size 2's as i have in the past plenty of times and would be a more appropriate size for the flounday's , hope this helps

No prob by the way not too sure about rogerstown but the estuaries i fish for flounder in on this coast always only fish really good in oct/nov/dec as the flounder fatten up at this time of the year and you can pull out some nice specimens

Re: flounder in estuaries
Agree with both those good tips from Masterkeane.
Another trick that sometimes helps is not to leave the bait static, but retrieve it gradually in slow pulls. This also stirs up the bottom a bit and attracts the attention of any nearby flats.

Have a look at the results of this survey done in 2008 to get an idea of the types of fish available in the estuary

Re: flounder in estuaries
Cheers for the tips lads. Seems like August/Sept are the best months for a lot of fishing by the sounds of things. I'm on a mission for my first bass so fingers crossed!
Thanks again

!!! I've spent countless hours spinning there with nothing to show for it over the last year. Really must be jinxed!!
