Report:
A big oul sea greeted a dozen hardy East Coast Raiders anglers on Bono’s home patch - Killiney beach, yesterday. From the outset it was clear there was a bit of weed in the big roller hitting the beach. This was to prove difficult , espacially for the lads on the high pegs who didn’t have the luxury of a big grass bank behind them that they could retreat onto (Peg 3 - Gift!!!).

Mark was first on the board with a dog early on, followed by “Bootsy” Kavanagh, with a dog & whiting double. Having seen this i changed to a pulley pennel and blasted a crab bait out as far as I could, and hey presto a dog for me! A few lads started to pick up whiting at this stage so everyone began to target them.

As the tide began to ebb the sea began to flatten off a little, but just before dusk, disaster struck for shane (bigsod). The weed in the surf caught his line and his rod was going seaward at a rate of knots. Not a man to let his zzippy ZTI go to a wet grave, in he went after it. Just as he caught it, bang, in comes a big roller, right over his head, he resurfaced seconds later and myself & Eric pulled a swearing and spitting bigsod out of the drink. He reeled in and the b*stard had a dog!!

Into the darkness and plenty of fish were coming in all along the beach, Sod despite his dunking was catching at a rate of knots, while Eric & boycie were catching steadily. Word was, old man Dodger was catching a few fish down the beach so it looked like being a close one, i finished very well with 3 dogs on my last 3 casts to put me in with a shout.

Final tally was –
1st Bigsod – 10 Fish – 351 points
2nd Alby – 10 fish – 315 points
3rd Roger – 9 fish – 265 points

As it was our final master angler comp of the year, the final leage table left Eric on top and the inaugural East Coast Raiders Master Angler. I had to win to catch him and very nearly did which meant an exiting finish. Looking forward to next year already!

thank god it was bigsod and not anyone else it would take more than an eightfoot breaker to wash sod away in hindsight me and alby would have been quids in well done eric ya pup

was tough one, really disapointed no better fish showed, sea looked very codish. well done sod victory was much deserved on your behalf,coming back from the brink of death to win was impressive

Ill be staying out of the water from now on feeling brutal today after 2 soakings in a week. Fair play to the Eric and Alby who came to my rescue and to Shane H who spotted my rod was in the drink in the first place.

Eric the recorder took 10 a4 pages of notes so im sure he will publish them soon Just the usual club stuff mate a few rule changes, A vote for comittee members and sorting venues for next year.Also the introduction of a last man standing comp and a blind pairs also.

fair play for sticking it out lads and congrads eric on winning the M.A. and shane in the comp . but what's sod up to is this a regression back to the sea or what i hope you were'nt out in the surf putting fish onto your rig for the extra points
