Results: 4 goldsinny wrasse 6 pollock 4 poor cod 10 pouting 1 short spined sea scorpion 2 ballen wrasse 1 mackeral




Report: checked the weather report and it was looking good so i packed the car and headed to the tackle shop for a bag of rag and headed for the harbour. i arrived to find the harbour empty so had my pick of the spots i wanted to fish i cast out to my first spot and was straight into a pollock, ok he was only about 3 inches but they all count . i could no sooner get the bait in the water and i was either into a fish or had the hook stripped this went on for 2 hours of small fish after small fish, no monsters but great crack guessing what species was gonna come up next i even got both male and female goldsinny wrasse in the same session which was a bit odd . i usually catch all male or all female in the same trip but never togeather. new one for me . around half two the tide moved me off my perch which was bloody annoying as the fish had started to get progressivly bigger as the tide rose . but i could'nt complain as i had a great session and the sun was so hot i got sunburn. and i was out of bait anyway, so i packed up and started to walk along the sea defences back to my car. on the way back i noticed something glimmering on a submerged rock. i put my hand into the water and low and behold pulled up a mack trace complete with 2oz lead attached RESULT! quickly set the rod up and cast out, and on the fourth cast got a nice 28cm pollack well chuffed. by this stage the water was splashing at my feet and i was begging the tide for just ten more minutes and on my cast before last i got a mackeral to finish the day. so with soggy feet and a grin on my face i headed for home

Myself and my wee boy fished off the back of the pier this afternoon for 2 hours (2pm - 4pm).

We didn't get a single bite.

Daniel was float fishing with mackeral as bait. I was fishing on the bottom, close in, with sandeel as bait. (We couldn't get any ragworm!).

What are we doing wrong??????

nobuzz you are probably casting over the fish. try dipping in the holes in the boulders or in between the rocks, there are plenty of good fish lurking in there

hi nobuzz. christina hit the nail on the head. i watch countless anglers cast over and beyond the fish the vast majority of em are at your feet. look for gaps and clearings around the boulders on the sea defences, this is where most of the fish are. or when the tide starts to rise fish down the holes, the shore rockling, blennies, shannys and sea scorpions will all take mack strips . and if your gonna cast out only fish at about 20 foot out, just enough to clear the kelp beds. most of the species use the kelp bed to hide in for protection, so just cast beyond them to intice them out of the kelp just remember to return the shannys and corkwing wrasse at the same spot you caught them as they are highly territorial and stick within thier own patch. espically the corkwing wrasse. after the female lays the eggs the male guards them until they hatch so that they don't get eaten by other predators so always put them back where you caught them i'll pm you the next time we're heading down and point you in the right direction if you like and christina, how did the holiday go?, did you get any marlin or sailfish
