Report:Headed over to strangford after work so i could catch the filling tide and see how many mullet were about.I crumbed some bread while i waited for the tide to be right then headed down when it was just about to reach my fishing spot.
Within 15 minutes of chucking in a few handfuls of bread there were mullet nibbling on it.The first 40 minutes saw me miss about 7 bites, though none of them were very positive. The fish were just mouthing at the bread, then out of nowhere a nice fish gulped down my bait and it practicaly hooked itself.Straight away i saw it was big and it took several good runs, after about 10-15mins it was in the net.Happy days my 2nd mullet of the year and it was a specimen of 5lb on the button. Thankfully a mate was on hand to get photos then i measured it and returned it.
Cant wait to get down again,6lb`er here i come

just a thought have you tried using a little stinger tied on a fluoro or light supple braid hair off your main bread holding hook?
i have found it can be a great aide to hooking mullet when they are slurping the bread but not getting hooked. i use a size 14 or so on a one to 2 inch hair so it just hangs in among the bread, sometimes when they slurp the bread they suck in the small hook too. has put a few extra on the bank for me over the years
cheers adam, i`ll maybe look into that stinger thing.i started using owner pint hooks last year, they are very light which helps keep the bread on the surface for longer but they have helped double the amount of hook ups.i would recommend them to anyone who likes surface fishing for mullet.

Strange you should mention that Adam, years ago I used to have a similar set up with a size 16 hook, more often or not I landed fish on the 16.
