flattie bashing

#1 Post by eric »

People:me and jack

Duration:6-9

Tide:full out at 8 i think

Weather:gentle easterly

Bait:lug,rag and mack

Rigs:3 hook flappers (beads versus no beads)

Results:plaice flounder and dabs

Report:headed out after college with jack, first things first we needed some petrol so out came bags of 20 and 10 cent coins, 15 euro later we where off to our mark  first cast and i got a jammy 34cm plaice  which was followed by a flounder, then jack struck back with two more flats. then a period of no fish began around slack water as expected. as soon as the tide picked up i landed a dab, then jack and i finished up with a double each, lovely day to be out :D :D

final scores me 6 fish
jack 4 fish
beads 1 fish
no beads 9 fish

Great fishing there eric. The price of petrol is getting crazy!!
Interesting about the majority of fish coming to rigs with no beads.

That is interesting - 9 fish with no beads, 1 fish with beads.
I never had much success getting flat fish when using beads - then a few weeks ago I headed out to an East Cork beach hoping for bass. However, the conditions were too calm so I set up one rod to target flounder - but as it was a long walk to the mark I was travelling light and didn't have much tackle with me and no rigs with beads - so used a beadless two hook size 2 flapper rig and got 4 flounder.

After that I fished in Youghal a couple of Sunday afternoons and again used rigs with no beads and got 3 good size floiunder the first time and 7 the last time, all apart from one were a good size.

So that leads me to think that beads are not all they are talked up to be.

Location :?: I'll throw my guess into the hat.....

I'm thinking the rocks beside Greystones Harbour, but I'm suprised at the lack of whiting  so maybe I'm wrong.

BTW Whats the prize for guessing correctly
