Penn Surfmaster 850

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

Penn Surfmaster 850

#1 Post by Big Mac »

Has anyone bought one of these, or the smaller 750? The reviews for their older model reels look good, but I haven't been able to find out much info on the 850. What about it's claims to easily cast over 200yds?

hI mate I use the Penn Surfmaster 850 I have braid on it and pair it with the 13ft and 14ft rod. I know some people think that tackle doesn't effect things too much but I believe this reel and the set-up does add distance. She is extremely well made.

I know multipliers rule the casting courts.Distance usually comes from good technique but I was never that good a caster with multipliers so went back to fixed spool. I have seen good distances being achieved I am sure in the right hands it could hit the 200 mark.

Them hands ain't mine!!!
