most beach rods with a standard casting rate of 4-8oz will be fine. a bit on the big side for lighter rods. reel works well with 15- 20lb. line. get a smaller reel for 10 or 12lb lines maybe an abu, although a fixed spool might make more sense. the slosh is fine with lines of 20lb.+ heard there is a 515 in the making! ooooh! i have 3 penn reels. 2 standard 525mags and a supermag. all 3 vary slightly when tuned the same. supermag is too slow when all brakes are in use but you can easily remove them. leave a good 5-10mm of line from top of spool and you will be able to trust them in all conditions. sorry i've gone way off the piont!?!
