IndependentBoy miraculously survives cliff fall
A
A 13-YEAR-old boy last night fell 20ft down a cliff and landed on rocks after he lost his footing while casting a fishing rod yesterday.
The boy was with a 14-year-old friend, perched on a ledge about 40ft up the cliffs at Balscadden Bay in Howth, when drama struck.
The younger boy was casting a fishing line when he went with the rod. It is understood that he rolled down an incline and then fell about 20ft onto the rocks at the waters edge.
His friend tried to get to him but could not. He rang the emergency services on a mobile phone. Dublin Coastguard received the alert shortly before 5.30pm and co-ordinated the rescue effort.
The boy was stretchered to a waiting ambulance. He suffered hip and leg injuries. The other boy, escaped unhurt, and was helped back up the cliff.

Good to hear he's ok. Must have been very close to the edge to fall when casting.
I often wondered if they'd ever fence that section off, the reason is there now.
One thing for all juniors to note when casting, very important to have sure footing.
A lucky lad indeed.
