Annoying as it is Darryl, there is a reason behind it. People were driving onto the slip for no reason whatsoever and were ending up with cars in the sea as they would drive too far down and start to slide on all the algae etc on it. Stupid as hell I know but that happened on quite a few occasions. Post the address will you, I will make my feelings known also on the subject as I regularly use Buncrana slipway. We shouldnt all be tarred with the one brush over other peoples stupidity.

Failing the diplomatic approach, angle grinders can be hired from Coyles Plant Hire in Ballymagan.... :D

Guys

I launched at that Slip when I brought Clarion up to Fahan
But I also took a few photos for the slipways report for the boat site

Looks like its for ferry use only, I know everyone uses it .... dont flame me only showing what I saw :)

I seem to remember there being a slipway long before the ferry.

We enquired about it at one stage last year and were told as long as we didnt interfere with the ferry going about its business then it was fine.

I WAS TOLD ABOUT THE IDIOTS IN THE CARS BY THE RNLI BOYS BUT THEY COULD AT LEAST MAKE THE SLIP AVAILABLE BY ARRANGING A KEYHOLDER OR SELL KEYS FOR ACCESS BY US PEOPLE WITH BRAINS  THE LETTERS SENT TO THE COUNCIL MITE G'''THEM UP.......AND THE SMART BOYS AT DeWALT MAKE EXCELENT CORDLESS GRINDERS THAT CAN COME IN HANDY IN SOME SITUATIONS

never been there but i dont think they should be allowed to do that, if they even made another one for public use.

How long was the slipway available for public use? If it was over a number of years then 'Right of Way' might be applicable in this situation.

Anyone on the site a member of the legal profession??? If you're too embarrassed to say so a PM will suffice. :D :D :D

There is another slipway at Fahan Marina it is a gravel one but you can still use it. Then there is one beside the marina used by the Lough Swilly Sailing Club which dries out at low tides but is still usable(Zest marine based in Fahan have a tractor available for launching at a modest price if needed 087 6394807) Then there is one on Inch Island which again is sand/shingle There is one at Neds Point (which the lifeboat use)and that can be used at all states of the tide (sand) and then there is Lennan pier a little bit further up the lough which is also usable.

Even if Buncrana is locked up there are other options available.
