Dalriada Pier - 08/04/06

#1 Post by glengormley-gavin »

People: Me, NorfolkandGoode & Neal

Duration: 1300 - 1700

Tide: Filling for a 1930 HT

Weather: Blustery but clear and sunny - 8'c

Bait: rag, mack and sneaky wee bit of crab that I found

Rigs: 2 Hook clip downs & scratching rigs

Results: 2 plaice, 1 dab & 1 flounder

Report:
Good session this afternoon - met up with N&G & Neal at short notice, nice day up the coast but a bit blowy

The tide had just begun turning when we began. N&G landed a wee plaice and a wee dab, I hooked a nice plaice of 28cms but things quitened down after that.

Neal lost a great fish (looked like a 3-4lb cod) to a seal, the little fecker snapped his line and then took great delight in making a show of himself tossing the fish about before munching it   - cheeky wee bassa!!!!!!

I spotted a crab claw on the pier and got the meat out of it, I whipped it on to a size 1 fine wire hook with some mackeral and lobbed it out, i packed up the rest of my gear and then went back to the crab baited rod to bring it in - lo and behold a lovely flounder of 35cms - nice finish to the afternoon.

Cheers to N&G & Neal for some good craic - roll on Kinnego.

All the best campers!!

Hmmmm, classified info mate

Not hard to find - look for Dalriada Avenue when next passing through Cushendall - that's all I am saying...

(more like a jetty than a pier though.....)

a good place to fish is as you come in to cushendall is if your coming from larne to the crossroads in the center of town turn right towards the golf coarse and head for a small Beach now on your left hand side you will see some rocks abut 100-200 yards away fish them you will have abut 15ft of water at the edge of the water so your getting in to deep water when you cast me and a mate fished it last year with some good fish 3lb cod and a 4-5lb pollack.
hairyconger top tip when fishing the peir get some shock leader stuff and tie your tripod to the rails that's what i do trust me it dos work
