Millionaire farmer jailed for ‘ecological vandalism on an industrial scale’ for bulldozing trees along riverbank
He dredged the waterway and was ordered to pay £655,000 (€735,000) to restore landscape, but experts say it will take decades to re-establish mature trees
Environmentalists hailed the sentencing, and waterways campaigner Feargal Sharkey said it was a fantastic outcome, praising the Environment Agency for pursuing the case.

A MAN who pleaded guilty to removing sand by the lorry-load from the mouth of the River Feale at the Cashen in North Kerry last year – just 11 days after he had been fined for the same offence – has been sentenced to three months in prison.
