Westport/ Newport

#1 Post by Kevvv »

Hi All,

In Castlebar at the minute and have brought the spinning rod with me. The father in law is keen to wet a line. Anyone have any tips or where to head out the Westport or Newport direction? We’re hoping to target bass but would happily take a mackerel or pollock.

Not expecting any secret marks but any help is highly appreciated.

Cheers

Just an update to this and for the benefit of anyone who happens to come across it through the search bar:

Ended up fishing out on Achill Island at a mark half way between Corraun and Mullaranny. An absolutely amazing piece of coastline which I’d be more than to blank at (which I did!). But thankfully there were two of us there fishing with spinning gear. Ended up throwing up a fairly large ballan wrasse and a small pollock.

There was a guy beside us who arrived in a wet suit with a spear gun! He come out of the water after 20 minutes with a ballan wrasse of his own for dinner.
