Just had a weeks fishing in Donegal and didn't manage to catch one single mackerel !
Found this most weird, even on what has been a great spot like St Johns Point.
Otherwise it was a few flats, pollock, coalies and dogs. Certainly not a holiday that will be remembered for the fishing.
It's a lovely part of the World. Seeing the golf course on Cruit Island really made me want to take up the sport again.
You hardly scratch an area on the surface in a week so I'll just have to return for a longer holiday next time and catch a few more sea trout and
perhaps a salmon, too !

Lots of mackerel in Donegal Bay at the moment but sometimes you can just be unlucky on the shore if their not right in. The small boats with jiggers are landing lots and angling boats seeing plenty everywhere.

On a side note, during may and June when the needle eye sprats came up behind st John's point, the ring netting crews and small trawlers fished them all up for 150 euro a tonne for fishmeal, a non quota species. Sickening

I was informed by the staff of the Tourist Office in Killybegs that there is a huge market for mackerel in Africa, notably Nigeria.
