strange dog

i was out for a cast monday evening .started hitting a few fish mostly doggies i then caught. this one .which was jet black never seen one like it before.also thought its shape was different any ideas??? Pictures: http://imgur.com/a/JExYF

Next time flip it over and take a picture of the mouth - that's where you can definitely tell whether it's a dog or a small huss. Hard to tell from up above.

I caught a near black dog once, and it was a dog, but never seen one like that before. It looks very squat across the middle too... might be a gravid female?

Try having a rummage around www.fishbase.org you might find something...

there was some spots on him on the under belly. the pictures really dont show how black this was.

Its a normal dog.
However is eye sockets are sunken which suggests it had no eyeballs. Have you any pics of the eyes.

i wouldent call it normal .im fishing boats and beaches for the last forty odd years and its the first one iv encountered.and it did have eyes but i dident get them on camara

I would agree with rampent it's a normal doggie, had dark doggies before, it's something to do with their surroundings. Any I have caught have come from rocky and heavy weeded areas. Some of the local Ray population have back noses, never seen it any were else
