Killiney beach

#1 Post by squid »

Going to head to killiney beach for a few hours this saturday. I know its mostly a night time mark but I can only go during the day. Was going to just use a 2 hook flapper with rag and mack/squid and hope for the best. Anyone know what I could expect to catch if anything? is it best to fish onto the sandy bottom or the part with the underwater rocks?

Few fish showing there over the last week, they seemed to like the rag over the rocky areas

I Took your advice and fished the part onto the rocky bottom with a mate. We both used 2 hook flappers with rag. He had 1 dogfish, 3 flounder and a dab. I had 1 dogfish, 1 flounder and a small wrasse. I also lost what felt like a huge fish as well which had my beachcaster doubled over and was pulling back like a train. Any idea what this could have been?

Could well of been a Bull Huss, a few have been taken from around the tea rooms.

Yeah I've heard of a few getting caught there. I also forgot to say one of my snoods was bit off on another cast aswell.

More than likely a decent wrasse. Have had them up to 4lbs there on rag. They hit the baits hard and are easily lost in the rough ground as they dive for the rocks. Your snood may have been cut on a rock.
