Cleaned Squid

#1 Post by Nic Mach »

I have the opportunity to get a lot of squid for the freezer, only thing is it is washed and cleaned for human consumption.
Just wondering if that makes it useless in terms of angling? Don't want to fill the freezer with useless bait.

should be fine - most people take the thin filamentous "skin" off squid before using it for fishing anyhow.
When you get to fishing, leaving it dry out a bit (a bit!) makes it harder and less easy for fish to rob off the hook. HTH

Don't take it if it's got a pink tinge.

If they are the smaller ones eg about 3 - 4 inches long you can stuff the hoods with other things (mussels, lug, bits of rag, etc), tie them up with elastic and use them as bait. work well on penell rigs. puncture with the hook a couple of times to let juices out as you go to use them.
