advice fishing trip

#1 Post by Stephen8wood »

I'm planning a trip for the end of April and I'm running out of ideas. There are three or four of us who want to have an overnight trip within 150 km of Dublin. We usually go sea fishing, either boat or shore but we are open to fly fishing, either put and take lakes or river or indeed other suggestions. We want to fish within 30 minutes drive from a nice town or village where we can find decent accommodation and a half decent restaurant to eat.

Would anyone have any good ideas? I found a packet of rusty split rings at the bottom of my box and I'll gladly put them up as a prize for the best suggestion  Seriously though, I'd appreciate any good suggestions.

should be some decent bass fishing in Waterford, base yourself in Dungarvan and you have the whole of the coast around there... could do bait fly and lure fishing for bass, mullet and sea trout - the salt fly fishing grand slam. Nice hotels, pubs and restaurants in the area.

High Pressure due in Friday and should be good for the weekend, southerly light breezes, crap tides however, mid day high water...

Time spent fishing is never time wasted...

2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks

Thanks for that Kieran. Any marks you might know near Dungarvin? We'd be looking at doing a bit of bait and lure fishing if we head that way.

Hey there.

I Live just on the river slaney in Carlow, B&B right beside the river and some of the best trout and salmon fishing in the country.

We own the local, Pub/restaurant, so thats pints and grub sorted :D

B&B €40pp - Dinner €12.95ish - I can arrange all for you if you would like.

And also for anyone else who is interested.

Not sure the cost of the fishing for the day, bout a tenner I would imagine.
