Shore Mackerel Reports '15 here...

#1 Post by Stephen8wood »

Had a lone Mac while winding in a flapper rig on Saturday. It was big and very green/pale looking. I shook it off the hook to let it go as it didn't look tasty to me. I suppose it could have got lost? I thought it was quite odd as there would be very little by way of bait fish around. Having said that I've caught mac in February on the boat while inshore fishing.
List 2010. fish

List 2011: less fish

2012: less fish again,

2013: even less fish.

The back of Dillons park in Dalky. Sorrento point. I'm still confused about it but again I've caught in Feb before, just further out.

They are being caught in south kerry for the last couple of weeks. Kells bay was producing them last weekend.

Anything being caught in the Clare area? I will head out this weekend and see if they are about in case no one has chanced it.

I would not be too optimistic about shore mackerel for at least another month, on the south coast at least.

In 2013, mackerel didn't appear here until the middle of July, despite good sea temperatures. Last year it was a little later again.
