Fishing the Foyle, Derry - Strathfoyle

#1 Post by chuckaroo »

just a query for the Donegal/Derry/Northern lads, or indeed anyone in 'the know'.. i was hoping for some pointers plse.
so I have been advised of decent fishing to be had around the area of Strathfoyle - the part of the Foyle before it opens into the estuary itself. is this the case, is there decent fishing here??
I was told of the port where the coal boats dock, of where there is an outlet pipe. a place called Killkera (spelling?) or thereabouts..? i didn't get an exact location
Can anyone back this theory up and be more specific please? would really appreciate some feedback. If i thought that it was worth it then i'd make the journey..
is it accessible and are you allowed to fish there..
thanks in advance
PMs welcome

ps. any decent flounder fishing to be had in the same area/Foyle?

The place your looking for is near the power station, don't know which side of the station as I only have hearsay never fished it. All along the foyle embankment from Eglinton down has decent flounder but watch the tidal flow

Thanks MC.
Just hoping for specifics for this power station area. Would like to know where this outflow pipe is and if the area is accessible. if indeed it's worth trying
have tried along the embankment before and at the mouth of the Roe, didn't get any particularly good flounder tbh, just a few wee ones

Anyone else that can offer a bit of advice..?!

chuckaroo, that outlet pipe is at Coolkeeragh power station beside Strathfoyle by the docks, bad news is, if you go into fish it the station's sucurty is down on you like a shot and will put you off the property, for you need to have permission to be on their land. ( i have been put off twice ) but if your looking for decent flounder try across the river from the power plant at the Oyster farm, have fished there for years for flounder and its a good spot that throws up some very decent sized ones . hope this helps.
as ole rab c said " see me' see the sea' i love the sea me"
