Re: peelers
Crabs shed all year around, but will do so in far greater numbers in the spring summer and especially autumn after the available food increases and they need to grow. It varies from place to place and an abundance of food in some estuaries can often lead to no seasonal shortage. I knew one which had a dairy plant upstream (long since closed) - whatever it was releasing including hot water produced a phenomenal environment. Not alone was there tons of peelers, the ragworm were a foot long (scary buggers).
You can buy peelers from most good tackle shops so long as you are prepared to pay for them, and a premium for them around now.
