Galway bay bass during the winter

#1 Post by paddy93 »

Hi lads,

Has anybody had much look with bass during the winter in galway bay?
I'm just wondering if they hang around the bay for the winter or do they go further south at some stage.

Cheers

not worth the effort targetting them

you hear of 1 or 2 all winter any given year

studies of bass in Ireland have shown them to have localised populations with little movement outside the home ranges.
Heavier rainfall will see them move offshore. I have noticed that catches in Mayo - my own and others - are better in dry cold spells and at night, the latter due to the shallow nature of the storm beaches...

Time spent fishing is never time wasted...

2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks
