Muckno, any 90-120 shallow diver should work nicely. Don't forget the wire biting trace.

Fish the South shore of Black Island, there are clearances every 10 or 20 yards. Waders are always handy but not necessary. Easy access at Castleblaney.

Monalty lake beside the nuremore isn't bad for pike but muckno is certainly better. White island is excellent and you can drive right to the fishing spots by phoning at the barrier for the code. Waders not necessary.

Monaghan pike

My pike challenge was a bit of a disaster ,I took my reel out of the bag only to discover the bail arm was broken ,so had to find a tackle shop rapido, found lakeside angling in blaney the owner was a gentleman and really looked after me ,so back to the lake and not a thing stirring at all I met a few other anglers and the had no joy either,on the plus side I snagged two lures so not a total loss I suppose ,ah sure that's how it goes anyway the missus liked the hotel and wants to go down again so I'll get another go at the pike again, cheers for the tips lads

One of the lures I caught ,god knows how long it was down on the bottom of muckno ,was gonna chuck it back as you can see from the state of it ,I was amazed when I scrubbed it up

Access is simple ,just go through hope castle gate just off the Main Street in castleblaney,go left for black island right for white ,I fished White Island as it's used for competitions and there were a few course lads there and I was thinking that maybe the pike would be in after the bream or whatever the lads were fishing for I used a few different plugs a few spoons and a large spinner mepp type and a rubber shad
