Howth spinning

#1 Post by ark rose glenn »

I'm going out to howth tomorrow to try a bit of spinning for pollock. Any suggestions where the best spot is to try for them. I was thinking the back of the longest pier. Would that be any use or am I waisting my time trying there. Any advise would be great lads .... Thanks in advance

Spot on, but try around 9pm as it starts to get dusky.

No "best" spot. Move up and down from halfway to the end, till you find them. If you're not catching after 10-15 mins move up

Is that the small lighthouse to the right at the end . The one with the rail around it... And is it into the harbour or off the seaward side. Or off the tip towards the island . . Thanks for the reply

Mid to high tide and and most importantly (as Rory said) at dusk. The pollock go nuts at that time. I had 37 one night in September 2012. No great size but great craic on light gear. Its the long pier, from the knuckle to the lighthouse.

Great stuff lads . I take it Iv to let the lure drop to the bottom to get to the fish. I know I'm gonna lose gear but that's part of fishing. . I'm using a small 7ft shimano olivio spinning rod and reel with 6lb line so even the small ones will be good fun if I get them ... I'll be using all types of lures, spinners and soft plastics until I find out what's catching and what's not. Thanks for the info lads
