Snap off's when casting

So I started fishing with a multiplier about a year or so ago and much prefer it to the fixed spool bar one thing that seems to be creeping in more and more and that is line snapping of and all the gear going with it.

This wasn't a problem when I started first but as I put more and more power into the cast it is occurring more. I am going to change the line on both the abu and 525 that I am using and I was thinking it could be the fact that the line has been sure quite steadily over the past year without a change and also that it was snapping more and more at the leader knot when I was pulling to make sure there was a good strong knot in place.

So my question is. Does anyone know with the line snapping and causing a bit of a birdie down to wrong thecnique or line or a combo?

Ok so you have your mainline on the reel attached to your shock leader. What is the breaking strength of your shock leader and what knot are you using?

Yeah, reading it again he hasn't changed the line in a year...needs a change all right.

On the casting court when this happens its usually down to not enough braking early in the cast, what set up have you in the reel, brake blocks or mags?

Both are mags. I also use quite a few of the mags as still only really getting used to the multipliers. Iv lowered to about half the mags.

Iv been using 60 pound shock leader and im not sure of the name of the leader knot but never had an issue with it before.

A good possibility your line is frayed or perished from the salt.
New line would help.

A fast snappy casting style will cause snap offs when you release the spool.
try a slow smooth cast and see how you get on

as shane said go back to basics, try slower casts untill you are starting to gain confidence in it again, once you get a few snap offs and its getting to your head it can be a nightmare,

Also don't be in a hurry to use less mags there is no need. When im fishing with 525 mags and 6500 mags i cast with the mags fully on and iv been using multis since i was knee high to a mushroom.
it also helps to keep your bearing's oiled as dry bearing's will run way to fast for fishing

This can only be 3 problems. Either your line is poor, your spool is too free or it's your technique. 99 times out of 100 it's technique. All are easily curable. First, make sure your reel is properly tuned up. Get somebody in a shop to check it for you if you can't do it yourself. Des in Southside is a dab hand at sorting out little problems like that. Next, buy a new spool of leader and main line. If your trouble clears up, then you've solved your problem. If it persists, then it's your technique. There's some good instructional clips out there on youtube for you to have a look at. Just slow everything down and you'll be fine. Don't try powerful pendulum casting until you're fully comfortable with the reel. Try off the ground first and take it from there.

A common cause is also your leader knot getting hung up on your tip ring a larger tip ring will help or change to tapered shock leader ?
