Razor fish

#1 Post by Dave78 »

Monday week looks like the perfect low tide to go collecting razor fish for bait, I normally buy them frozen, any suggestions for a beach to collect them in the Cork area, I have a few beaches in mind and a few spots to dig for rag and lug, it would be nice to stock up on bait for April. I've heard lough beg is good and fountainstown but i've tried both in the past with little success.
I will only have monday 31st and april 1st to go digging and collecting so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I have two locations in East Cork for digging its finding Razor fish that has me stumped I've only ever found two in the past.

Having a 0.0 at low water is not a guarantee you will be able to get onto the razor beds.
You will also have to factor in atmospheric pressure, wind direction and wind speed.

Based on the present 7 day forecast, which I would never believe, things are not looking good.
http://www.xcweather.co.uk/forecast/Cork

1014 mbar is the middle line, over that and it is classed as high pressure and below that it is classed as a low.

Low pressure will lift the sea (surge) giving a higher tide than the 0.0 add the east southeast winds predicted then things are not looking good for the cork/east cork beds.

As above the last few 7 day forecasts are not to be believed so that could change.

Hi Donal,

Thanks for that info man I might have to have a good look into this tonight when i get home from work, Ive already decided on going west cork way for a bit of shelter and to chasing bass after.
I thought i was doing good getting the wind direction right , i will have to go back to school for to learn about atmospheric pressure :)

As always Donal your info is spot on, thank you

2 of us picked up about 60 today.

Long walk and tired but was nice to see that salting can work.

Never had any luck before on the venue i have always had to use a fork.Today it worked and it is funny watching them evacuate their hole to wash off the salt.

Also dug some bloody big Black lug near 18 inches in size.

Sandeel were tiny though think i might need a net to get the bigger ones.
