#1 Post by basshunter10 »

Heading down to Kerry next Saturday lads. Il be fishing the Tralee area. Just wondering what I should be targeting apart from flats if anything. Is it a bit early for bass and ray?

No i've had a few rod hours put in on the shore but just not alot, escaping for a few hours more so than going fishing. I've heard a few results of Fenit today in the shop and there's a few flatties showing. This side then Minard and Cuan pier in Ventry tend to be good this time of year, but there's alot of salmon nets out in Ballydavid so not much chance there i suspect. Although I had a few results in November just out the harbour in dingle so the fish are there i'm just not finding them.

Also trying to get the boat ready for water by the end of the month and juggling work is tricky but i'll get my antifouling done this week so i'm nearly there fingers crossed! :D

Let me know how you get on anyways whatever your result, and good luck! :)

Just need to pick a beach now lads. I was thinking ardfert. Our bass fishing is a lot better later in the year in Louth and Meath so just wasn't sure if they were the same down south. I'll let you know how it goes Jg, have fished Fenit but none of the other spots you mentioned. Had 7 species off it one night a couple of years ago but im looking to broaden my options as my sister lives in castleisland and I'll be down a good bit in the future. Timing is everything pat and I seem to have fluked it this time ;)

Ya down along the southern coasts bass would tend to show a bit longer through the year, and mackerel and sandeel were very bountiful late on in the year so food stocks were excellent for the predatory fish. Also in the better bass beaches and rock marks i'm hearing a massive reduction in spotted nets so i think the illegal fishermen are copping on a bit!

I wouldnt bet on it. Their either on a break or took the nets in during the storms to stop them being washed away. No doubt the cnuts will be at it again soon enough.

True that i suppose... Early salmon runs are probably a target of theirs too so they could just have relocated the nets i guess.
