Hi all,
I like the idea of using rig glue and stops on my light line rigs for scratching, as crimps can certainly cause damage to lighter rig bodies.
For anyone who has used this, what is the best tubing to go with? there is some for sale from sea match angling uk, but the delivery cost is prohibitive.
Does silicone tubing work well? and if so, how much larger does the tubing need to be to facilitate a good fit over the rig body. (i.e. .35mm mono should use .40mm tubing ??).
Apologies for all the questions, but Paul Doyle has been stuck to my kitchen table since attempting a rig last Saturday!

Re: Rig Glue Questions
I use the breakaway adjustable crimps on my rig bodies of .35-.40 and find them very good, ive never gone any lighter than that. The rubber insert protects the line well and their movable too if needed. I find they dont grip as well as ordinary crimps on the lighter lines so a decent fish will pull them down but its never been a problem for me as their tight enough that they wont move during the cast. Once the fish is unhooked just pull them back to where they should be.
Sakuma do a version too but they were more expensive for a smaller pack and i found the inserts fell out when putting the line thru and they didnt go back in too easy.

I’ve seen half a rig flying toward wales a few times Rog, especially when fishing very light!roger de dodger wrote:Why make em so complicated :geek::?:

I got some .50mm silicone tubing from a carp tackle company in the UK – HL Developemnts (€4 for 4 metres and it should last the guts of my lifetime).
I knocked up a few jigs myself out of a piece of wood with half a rig winder glued on either end. Application of glue is perfect with a cocktail stick, and a small tweezers to pull the tubing into place.
Thanks to Mark Beatty for all the tips!

Them lightweight rig body's should be banned from competitions for health and safey reasons, powercasting with 20lb rigs and 60lb shockleader dont work.alby wrote:I’ve seen half a rig flying toward wales a few times Rog, especially when fishing very light!roger de dodger wrote:Why make em so complicated :geek::?:

Re: Rig Glue Questions
I agree, you’d be crackers to try power cast on 20lb trace body, 10lb per ounce of casting weight is a good rule of thumb.JOHN1 wrote:Them lightweight rig body's should be banned from competitions for health and safey reasons, powercasting with 20lb rigs and 60lb shockleader dont work.
I’ve had a couple of rigs go at the crimp on 18/20lb rig body for real light line stuff, this will alleviate that problem!

Re: Rig Glue Questions
why don't you just pass the line through the tubing twice, its moveable and no need to fart about with glue
