What do you use for making rigs?

I mainly buy my rigs, but am going to sit down over the winter and learn to make my own properly. What would you recommend using to make them? all i ever used before was regular mono but i found that when after using rig winders, it wouldn't lie straight when un wound, if you know what i mean.. there surely is no memory stuff out there?

Amnesia is very good and seems a popular choice. For scratching and fishing daylight in clear water fluro is worth trying, gorilla is a decent line and not too expensive.
Go into a local shop and chat to them. Buy a few different rigs and all the bits to make them with. Its not cheap to start out with by time links, hooks, swivels, beads etc are paid for but they should last you a good while and youll only need to top them up as individual bits are running low.

+1 for the amnesia...i use it for most trace snoods up to 25 - 30 lbs,but vary trunk and snood breaking strain depending on what im fishing for.sometimes up to 80lbs trunk and 40lbs snood for rough ground huss etc.nothing better than tying your own lad.
one lad i know just makes various trunks and snoods with varying hook sizes and uses a gemini weight clip tied onto the snood so he just clips it onto the crimped swivel on the trunk as he sees fit,he gets a few looks from other anglers alright when all they see is baited snoods hanging from his tripod clever tho.
i usually tie up my made traces with light soldering wire at home and stick em in a trace wallet and only use the rig winders for packing up after a sesson and for holding lengths of leader with snap swivel tied on already...

I notice your based in Wexford, Pop into Angela in Murphy's and she will tell you what you need. If you want a basic list made up pm me with what rigs you want to make and intended species. If you strech the rigs a little they will lie much nicer, The bigger rig winders are better than the smaller ones regarding line coiling.
