we've hit a large shoal of scad on a trip around the Aran Islands a few years ago. Everyone on board pulled in full strings and we had to move away from them after we had a full box of them within 15 minutes. They are lovely to eat, treat them the same way as you would with mackerel, they are a member of the tuna family and they taste slightly less strong than mackerel. If you can catch them consider yourself lucky and have the Barbie lit when you come home. ;)
