Hi I’m looking for a few shore marks near enough to cliften or better yet ballyconneely. I am going to give it a try I will be there for a few days and I use a mobile home out there from time to time
I know about Gurteen and Dogs Bay, witch do you think is better for a night fish
Killary is within range I never fished here so exact marks would be helpful and it is a bit of a long trek anyway I think it is near the entrance of it witch would be further again as far as I know
I have my too nephews with me this time so please tell me if the mark would be dangerous for 12 year olds
If you would prefer a pm would be helpful too
thank you.

The pier in Errislannan and Aillebrack/Bunowen are supposed to be good for conger eel.
The White Lady, on the Errislannan side, is good for ray and wrasse. It's a fair bit of a trek, though, and I wouldn't recommend it at night. It should be safe enough for a 12yo, depending on weather, but definitely need to be cautious around the rocks.
Cleggan Pier is good for conger and flounder.
Sloper's Cliff is known for pollack, wrasse, mackerel, ray - although I've only caught mackerel and pollack (very good spot for those on an incoming tide). Sloper's is up the Lower Sky Road in Clifden, then left before you get to Dolphin Beach House. It's very easy to get to, but night fishing is out because the rocks are extremely dangerous, and the currents are extremely turbulent in spots. I would only take a 12yo if it was dead calm, and even then, I would feel uneasy. Midges are very annoying there on a calm evening. Very nice scenery.
The Salt Lake on the Ballyconneely/Clifden Road has pollack, wrasse and conger. It's a nice spot, but personally, I haven't been too lucky there.
I'll PM you a map of the Clifden marks.

Re: Clifden / ballyconneely, Shore marks request
Is there and areas around the ballyconneely or white lady areas that a kayak could be launched from. Anyone any ideas on any difficult currents? Even if anyone could pm me a reply it would be of a great help. I'll be heading out for the usual: pollock, wrasse and thornies. I'm catch and release.

If you go to slopers is a bit of a trek down the cliff and travel light as its one hell of a climb back up through the soft ground at the bottom but we have had some nice ray from that mark.

It's not really much of a trek if you park your car somewhere along the Lower Sky Road. It'll take 5 minutes tops to get from the road to the cliffs. There is a path and a crossing for the two wire fences, with a plastic tube covering the barbs. It was a bit difficult getting back up over the wall leading back on the road, but a road has been built there now. If you happen to be staying at Dolphin Beach House, they have a car park and a private path through their back garden, leading directly to the cliff.sparkey+1 wrote:If you go to slopers is a bit of a trek down the cliff and travel light as its one hell of a climb back up through the soft ground at the bottom but we have had some nice ray from that mark.
The "skinners" are commonly known as sand fleas or sand hoppers. I think the proper term is Talitridae. I'm pretty sure they're harmless when swimming, and never had a problem when fishing, but I did notice there seems to be a bloom of them at Mannin in Ballyconneely and Gurteen in Roundstone. I definitely prefer a beach without them, but I've never really noticed them in abundance when rock fishing. Only the odd one latched on to a pollack, if they're the same creatures.
You can launch a Kayak from the beach at the Bunowen Pier. You can also launch it at Mannin Beach. Launching it from the White Lady is pointless; too much of a trek with a kayak. But you can launch it from Errislannan Pier or the pebble beach at the pier. The White Lady is basically just around the corner. You could also launch from the Clifden Boat Club. Lots of people kayak out to the White Lady from there. If you're conditioned, it shouldn't take long - this is going through the bay, so it'd be fairly sheltered.hurler01 wrote:Is there and areas around the ballyconneely or white lady areas that a kayak could be launched from.
