If your not too fussy any thread with a coat of epoxy resin will do the job. If you want a better job, get some rod building thread and rod epoxy or hi-build as it's also known The rod building thread holds it's colour and the hi-build does not yellow in time.
After you but the epoxy on you need to turn the rod slowly until the epoxy starts to go off. After that you need to rotate it from time to time so it stays round and doesn't all lean to one side.
