Hi
Try the back of the East pier in Dun Laoghaire on a high tide, safe enough for the lad too, use a kilty or a dexter wedge. Don't use feathers as you will lose them in the weed close to the wall. Try anywhere after the last bend in the pier, plenty of Pollock around there. Good luck.

As Richie says the back of the East Pier is great for Pollock, I had well over 100 in about 4 sessions earlier on this month, biggest was only 2.5lb but it was good fun. I was using a 10 gram Connemara Krill which are around 3 euro in Southside. You would need a light spinning rod and 6 to 8lb line on your reel to get a decent cast if you use these lure.

A colleague of mine fishes the back of the east pier a good bit. He's had a couple of 5lbs + Pollack there. He does put in the hours though.
