Well folks, what's the best bait to use for Gilthead Bream?

Lug or crab seems to be catching here from what I've heard.

crab for me too
Always CAR! unless its a pollock...!

2012 species: Pollock, Mack, Coalfish, Gurnard, Bullhuss, Dogfish and Wrasse.
Would do anything for a bass!

I haven't tried the Cork Harbour marks for a long time. They had all but disappeared (read: the one year class that arrived had all been caught).
They are still being caught in Ring and estuaries further east in Waterford Wexford Lovely fish to catch using appropriate gear. If they were still around I think I would be trying for them with soft plastics....

They're on my bucket list. People with the knowledge seem to be pretty tight lipped when it comes to Giltheads. I wouldn't blame them.

i had a go for them last night but the dogs and smoothies wouldnt leave my crab alone to let them get a sniff :lol:

i can understand that- they tend to be localized and suffer from tasting too good on a plate :cry:
outside of known hotpots most shore catches i have heard of generally tend to be one off's even if a few fish have been caught at the time.

there are lots of other spots too, fire off a PM to Art (cortaz) and he will look after you, from what I know he is he is out chasing bass with Henry Gilbey at the moment but just chance your luck ;)
