Dead Bass/Sea-Trout
Found this tired old lady washed up on the South beach in Rush this morning.
Any idea what she might have weighed?

Re: Dead Bass
Looks like either a sea trout or a salmon to me, fins are not in the right place for a bass.

Re: Dead Bass/Sea-Trout
I would be almost cetrtain that it is a dead salmon. Many of them survive spawning in late December but often die in February or March. In years when we had good runs of salmon in west Kerry they were a common sight washed up on the beach. A tasty meal for a seagull.

Re: Dead Bass/Sea-Trout
Think it's a salmon alright, seem to have the distinct 'wrist' just above the tail. Least it managed to spawn.

I was duck shooting along an estuary in December in January and remember seeing literally thousands of small dead fish along the shore for about a kilometre. Never seen anything like it. I have a few pics but it was dark at the time.

Re: Dead Bass/Sea-Trout
Looks like a salmon and likely to be a male too, the chunky build and long jaw profile say cock fish. Lower jaw gone but the length of the upper jaw is visible. The majority of cock fish die after spawning and its more often than not cock salmon that are found wahed up at this time of year.
