People: myself & FMD

Duration: 2.5hrs

Tide: low water

Weather: showery, windy

Bait: crab, wrap, mac

Rigs: flappers, pulley

Results: 2 codling, 3 dab, 5b rocklin and 1 codling, 2 flounder

Report: went for a look as always at the south beaches - stalks of kelp sitting up all over the place but no raft - still thought it might be fishable beyond the front 30metres but just hopped in car and went to a pier

there was 3 rods out there on arrival so decided to head down the coast to another pier, codling on first 2 casts thought there might be chance of something decent, 28cm - but that was false dawn

kept plugging away dab 24 and 18cm rockling

FMD got a flounder 28, 30mins later another round 20

then went quiet - saw trawler coming, didnt think i had time to reel in so sunk the line - didnt matter - reel emptied and line, rig etc. gone

got another reel out and brought in a double of dab

FMD brought another codling in 24 on last cast

boys on the boat said they were sprat fishing - nice watching all the dead ones filtering back around the pier head and into open water - its a pity theres not a more efficient way to do it

on a positive note FMD was delighted first ever codling
Entries now open for the All Ireland Shore Cod Championships on November 29th hosted by Sea Angling Ireland SAC
