Youghal , with the weather

#1 Post by jellybait »

Just wondering if any one knows with these strong sw winds is youghal still fish able as im going down on sumday,it's only my second time to fish this stretch and its a long haul from Wicklow , would it be more sheltered in some of the quay spots than on the strand ? Be great to have a few pointers. Thanks

It would be somewhat sheltered in town area, buts its the amount of fresh water running down the estuary that i'd b more concerned with.

Jusy back from Youghal area tonight, it was blowing a hooley. Had to go a fair bit up the river to get some shelter and be able to fish. Despite having some fresh crab and some local knowledge we only had a few small ones with the biggest a codling about two pounds. At one point there was a TREE coming up with the tide never mind the constant weed. Only advice I would give you would be to bring your stiffest rods and make sure you get some fresh crab.

Afraid not jellyfish
There was 1 small codling and whiting caught but that was it
I say the amount of freshwater coming down the river is unreal as once the tide started to head out again it became unfishable
But I suppose u will never know until you try
