Help? - Caherciveen possible marks?

#1 Post by simplywabs »

Ok here I am again...

I will be in Caherciveen over the weekend until Monday and will do a bit of cycling and fishing dusk onwards. I need help in some marks that are close by to caherciveen if not in caherciveen in itself. I am targetting Bass for this few sessions and would be using mostly bait. I have fresh peelers with me. Oh by the way the marks should be a bit safe cause this is a family trip and I have my 2 kids with me.

Thanks for all the PM's and any help would be appreciated.

Tight Lines...

That part of Kerry is not a great Bass area then I've never tried mainly because I'd been told that by locals.
http://www.kbfishingireland.com/ Kevin would be the best Bassman down that way

The nearest areas would be either St. Finians Bay, on the way to Waterville, or Rossbeigh back towards Kenmare. Both may be infested by surfers.

Kells bay is a nice little family beach. Out on the right hand point you’ll get Pollack, Wrasse, and mackerel bashers

Thanks a lot Donal...

I used to think think that Kerry have good Bass marks before I became successful in Cork and Waterford.

Anyway I will give both those marks a shot.

If all fails, I may be one of the mack basher there myself...

reenroe/waterville beaches close to the river mouth can throw up bass. If the little ones are with you its probably best to fish the opposite end of reenroe as the rivermouth can have a fierce under current. Theres a little beach signposted for fishing just past waterville also.
In Caherciveen fishing from the pier at night can throw up bull huss and thornback in calm conditions.
good luck and let me know how you get on. I will be there from the 13th to the 16th myself.
i get by with a little help from my friends.

Thanks for the few replies... I have tried fishing from within the camp site mannix point for 2 days but not a nibble... loads of crabs around... the small kids at camp enjoyed catching them using the shell fish around and a line and net...

I managed to get some decent fishing at the Pier at the far end of caherciveen if you drive around the island through the barracks bridge. The mark is a little bit weedy but throws up good sized pollocks... Had to let them all go back for I am not equipped to have any fish to take home.

Just glad I was able to get out and have a bit of rattle in the rod.

Never got the target species but a fish is a fish.

Next few weeks would be a fishing tour, will start and go around Youghal, Kilkee, Carrigaholt, Garretstown, Cobh, Kilteery... Need to up my species count for the year... its been slow...

Tight lines!

At least you caught something. Always wondered what it would be like to throw a line out at Mannix. Now I know
