Wicklow Harbour 15/6/12

#1 Post by jack01986 »

People:Sweetwrasse & myself

Duration: A few hours

Tide:Rising

Weather:Horrendous

Bait:Rag

Rigs:Single hooks and a sliding weight

Results:Male & Female corkwing wrasse, Ballan wrasse and Tompot Blenny's

Report: Had planned to hit wicklow pier to try target a few new species, unfortunately the swell and massive amounts of fresh water coming down the river put and end to that. After Sweetwrasee managed a double of a small Corkwing and a Tompot Blenny right beside the pier wall a change in tactics was in need and the 5lb braid and size 4 hooks came out. We were getting plenty of bites but these mini species have a serious knack of managing to strip the bait from the hook in seconds. Eventually we got the fishing dialled in and were able to hook a few more fish Even managed to catch the same Blenny twice!! :D so just shows you how hardy they are. Wasn't pure LRF fishing as we were using bait :P but the conditions called for it its very enjoyable catching some mini species on a rod only rated for a couple of grams. From what looked like a fairly tricky session was pretty good to manage to winkle a few fish out.
