Having a rod rebuilt - can rings save that much weight?

hi lads,

i am thinking of having an older greys rod rebuilt, mainly because its still got alot of life left in it and it suits what purpose i have for it very well. so i wanted to revamp it for aesthetic reasons mainly but the more i look at what is available ring wise i see alot of people talking about lightening up rods for various reasons by using different rings. all my other rods would have the older type fujis on them and by all accounts these are now outdated and heavy?

i have searched on the forum etc and seems that minima 4's are getting great reviews - my questions are,

1) if i want to save weight on the rod which would be a rough ground/casting rod then which rings would suit my application??
2) are there any adverse affects using lighter rings when i'll be fishing in the rough?

Minima 4s,, and use as little whipping and hi-build as poss...

2) are there any adverse affects using lighter rings when i'll be fishing in the rough?
No.. Alot of people are using Minima 4s for fishing and i aint heard a bad word about them, the best thing is if you drop a rod or it falls off a tripod with a ring that has a center stone they tend to crack or shatter and render the rod useless for the rest of your session, with Minima's they just get a bit bent so you straighten them and keep on fishing.
